Lin (Linda) Anderson was born in Greenock, western Scotland. Her parents were of Scottish and Irish descent. Her father was a detective in the CID, and Anderson read Enid Blyton and Agatha Christie from an early age. She has attended several universities in Scotland. In the 1980s, she lived in Nigeria for a few years. It was not until the end of the 1990s, after she had raised three children while working as a mathematics and computer teacher, that her writing career took off. She now lives in Edinburgh within a short distance from Alexander McCall Smith, Ian Rankin and J.K. Rowling. Anderson is a member of the Femmes Fatales crime writing trio, the other two are Alanna Knight and Alex Gray. The three ladies are the brains behind the Bloody Scotland crime fiction festival where Scottish crime writers have been appearing since 2012.
