The English author and TV-producer Matthew Arlidge was born in London, and grew up in Hampstead in North London, where he started attending University College School when he was seven years old. His father was a criminal lawyer, and at an early age young Matthew began to be interested in crime literature and real-life crime cases – but not in jurisprudence. He left school at 18, and spent some years as a globetrotter, which included a period working as a teacher in India and living now and then in Singapore and Australia. After returning to England, he started to study Literature at St. John’s College in Cambridge; while a student, he also met his future wife, Jennie.
