The British journalist and critic Henry Christopher Bailey is one of the five greatest crime novelists associated with the golden age of the 1920s and '30s. The others are Agatha Christie, F. Wills Crofts, R. Austin Freeman and Dorothy L. Sayers. But he began his career by writing historic fiction.
