The author and poet Roberto Bolaño was born in Santiago de Chile, but for most of his life he resided abroad, in Mexico, El Salvador, France and finally Spain, where he settled down with his family in the small Catalan coastal city of Blanes. There he also passed away, only 50 years old, while waiting in vain for a liver transplantation.
