Inger Edelfeldt was born in Stockholm and grew up in the Stockholm suburb of Hässelby. Her father was an engineer. Edelfeldt attended upper-secondary school and later studied drawing, drama and languages. She illustrates her own work as well as the work of other writer’s. In 1981, for example, she illustrated Moa och Pelle by Kerstin Johansson i Backe, the 1985 Tolkien calendar for the UK and US markets and Lena Karlin's Bröllopet i Marsipanien. Edelfeldt has published a number of much acclaimed novels and in recent years poetry. She has also written stage scripts for the Stockholm stage Teater Giljotin. In 2009, she published Hur jag lärde mig älska mina värsta känslor about her experiences of Zen meditation.
