Gripe, Maria

A Swedish author of children’s and youth books, Maria Gripe was born in Vaxholm and grew up in Örebro. She graduated from high school in 1943 and next studied at Stockholm University (then Stockholms högskola) in 1944-45. In 1946, she married the artist Harald Gripe (1921-1992), who also has illustrated and made covers for most of her books. Maria Gripe lived in Nyköping. She is the mother of the author of children’s books Camilla Gripe.
