David Grossman is an Israeli author and journalist born in Jerusalem to Polish Jewish parents. His father, Yitzhak Grossman, came to Israel from Austria in 1936 and worked there first as a bus driver and later as a librarian. David Grossman’s mother was born in what was then Mandatory Palestine. David learned to enjoy books in Yiddish from an early age.
