The Danish author Peter Høeg was born in Copenhagen and grew up in the inner-city district of Christianshavn. His mother taught Greek and Latin in upper-secondary school and his father was a lawyer. He attended that smart Bording free school, but was expelled in 1973 on account of his behaviour. He eventually earned his baccalaureate at the Fredriksberg upper-secondary school in 1976.
