The productive American Stuart M. (Melvin) Kaminsky had a chair in Film Studies and wrote a large number of books: studies about the cinema, directors and actors as well as more than 60 crime novels. In addition, he wrote film and TV screenplays, some plays, a large number of short stories as well as manuscripts for animated series. He also edited several anthologies and books about the cinema, including Ingmar Bergman : Essays in Criticism (1975) which he compiled together with Joseph F. Hill. Yet he didn’t make his debut on the book market until 1974, when he was 40 years old.
