One of the most remarkable, and most productive, British authors in the early 20th century was William Le Queux who wrote in several genres and mixed facts with fantasy in an effective, sometimes unique, manner. His books were adapted to their time as regards, for example, the political situation in Europe and contemporary British social norms; but above all, he had an intuitive feeling for what "the readers wanted". This made his stories surprisingly popular, albeit primarily on his home ground.
