Moberg, Vilhelm

The Swedish author Vilhelm Moberg was born and grew up in Algutsboda in the southern part of the province of Småland. His father belonged to a soldier family and was a soldier in the Kalmar regiment. His mother's family was freeholders. Initially, the couple lived with their seven children in a small soldier's cottage of only one room. In 1907, the family repurchased an estate in Moshultamåla which had been the home of the mother's parents. Thereby, they advanced in the social hierarchy and became small farmers. They had received the money for the purchase from relatives in America.
