The Finnish author Mika Waltari is considered one of the foremost Nordic authors of the 20th century. Many of his books are classics, probably best-known is the historical novel Sinuhe the Egyptian (1945, Sinuhe, egyptiläinen). He was also a poet and playwright, and he wrote crime stories, non-fiction, short stories, travel writing, and for a period comic strips. His books have been translated into more than forty languages, and new editions appear at regular intervals.
