Scottish doctor, author and amateur historian who became famous for historical biographies and – under the pseudonym Anthony Wynne – for more than two dozen crime novels. R. (Robert) McNair Wilson was born in 1882 in Glasgow, and studied medicine at Glasgow Academy and Glasgow University. He subsequently moved to London, where he opened a general practice in 1903. But he continued his medical studies and was known as a heart specialist 1920-33.
